Abstract: Objective This study aimed to investigate and compare the prolonged analgesic effects of liposomal bupivacaine and ropivacaine when applied in brachial plexus block for arthroscopic shoulder surgery. Methods A total of 82 patients who underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery with anesthesia at our hospital from January 2023 to December 2024 were enrolled. They were randmly divided into two groups, the observation group (n=42) received liposomal bupivacaine, while the control group (n=40) was administered ropivacaine. The analgesic relief effect, drug usage, and incidence of adverse events were analyzed and compared between the two groups. Results There were no statistically significant differences in the preoperative pain scores or the incidence of adverse events between the two groups (P＞0.05). At all postoperative time points, compared with the control group, the observation group (receiving liposomal bupivacaine block) had lower pain scores and a reduced cumulative consumption of opioid drugs (P＜0.05). Additionally, the incidence of adverse events in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion In arthroscopic shoulder surgery, the application of liposomal bupivacaine for brachial plexus block can effectively improve the postoperative analgesic effect, reduce the dosage of opioid analgesics, and decrease the occurrence of adverse reactions, mainly including dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.
